Barber's Site Tells How to Cut Hair at Home
Hairstylist: seeks to educate public on his trade

With tighter budgets a concern these days, haircuts by professionals can be a luxury.  A seasoned barber-stylist and salon owner, Steven Woodham, has come up with a solution available at his web site, http://CutHairAtHome.com.  "I've noticed a growing trend of customers coming in for 'repair jobs' to fix a botched home haircut, so I decided it was time to put my hair cutting book on line.", says Woodham.
Motivated by the popularity of classes he taught at Escondido Adult School in California, Woodham  wrote the book, "Cut Hair at Home Like a Pro." When the book was originally published back in 1992, Woodham placed ads in nationally recognized magazines and was surprised by the large number of responses, especially from rural areas.
"I could see what beginners were having trouble catching on to," said Woodham. "Also, there are no real instructions with the clippers you buy, so there's a real need for something like this.  You can save money and it's really fun."
According to Woodham, all haircuts are variations of three basic cuts; the trim, layer haircuts and clipper haircuts.  He covers all the basics and also explains how to cut children's hair, how to cut your own hair and how to cut if you are left handed.
Woodham launched the CutHairAtHome.com web site in late 2002. "My first month I got 10,000 hits", says the barber-stylist.  The illustrated book, Cut Hair at Home Like a Pro, is available at the site as an instant download or by mail order.  There's also a special section at the site about free haircutting tips with links to more tips.  An additional haircutting kit is also available.
Currently Woodham is working on a Spanish translation of the book. "I believe there is a huge market with Hispanics and it may be a little easier to market at a retail level because of the demand there." he says.
Woodham has been cutting hair for more than 20 years. "Actually," says Woodham, "I originally became a hairstylist to help support a career as a musician. They are compatible fields. Cutting hair is an art, like creating music or like painting a picture, but the canvass is a real human being.  The best part is getting to meet a lot of people from all walks of life."
The online book sells for $12.95 at http:CutHairAtHome.com.
